VIDEO: Uber driver assaults passenger, threatens to track her down

Updated Sep 13 2019 03:09 pm

In a trending video on social media, a Uber driver was seen holding a whip and angrily telling a lady to get down from a car.

The video, which was first shared by a Twitter user, @Stee_vane on Thursday revealed that the Uber driver used the whip on the female customer.

In the video, a voice behind the camera said, “Please let’s get down.”

The driver was seen holding the car door open and demanding that the lady exit the car.

Another voice said, “She cannot even come down here.” He said, “I have been watching her since. Get out! Are you mad?”

From a moment the video went askew. The driver later wondered why he was being videoed.

Meanwhile, he kept shouting “Get out!”

The Twitter user, who shared the video in a separate tweet revealed that the Uber driver contacted the passenger on Whatsapp, threatening her.

In the screenshot of the conversation, which he shared, the Uber driver said, “I will find you and come to your department or faculty to report you.

“You will explain why you have to involve my family. When calling me. Asides that, I will take some legal measures. If you ain’t wise, I will teach you how to be wise!!!”

Three attempts by The PUNCH to reach the Uber Driver, using the number (+234 803 475 57**) on the screenshotted conversation failed as the first call brought the notification that the number wasn’t on network. The second attempt said “Call forwarding” but ended abruptly while the third call didn’t even ring.

A check on Truecaller, revealed the name attached to the number to be one Samson Olaosebikan.

Meanwhile, Uber Nigeria has revealed that it was aware of the incident and was investigating it.

Via its verified Twitter handle, Uber Nigeria said, “We can completely understand your concern. We are aware of this incident, and our incident response team is currently investigating and has been in touch with both parties.”
