The Vice-Chancellor, Lagos State University, Prof. Lanre Fagbohun, has urged the private sector to contribute to the development of the university.
He made the call while delivering the keynote address at the Eko Club’s fourth anniversary lecture last Thursday.
Speaking on the topic, ‘Lagos State University through time: An instrument for global relevance,’ Fagbohun said, “It isn’t the work of the government alone because the government is playing its part. The private sector, as well as the statesmen, should play their parts too in the development of this university.â€
The VC said he was glad that LASU had not witnessed any crisis in the last three years, saying that was instrumental in the recognition of the institution by the World Bank as an African Centre of Excellence.
“For LASU to be globally relevant, there has to be improved funding by the government, increased investment in quality education by stakeholders and conducive education polices,†he added.
Justice Obafemi Adamson of the Lagos State High Court said LASU had become “an instrument of global relevance,†as it had produced a lot of graduates “who have served and are serving in different capacities in the country.â€
The President, Eko Club, Dr Ade Dosunmu, said the lecture was organised to “celebrate our institution because the university produced a lot of our members.â€
