Shorunmu backs Ighalo to shine at United

Former Super Eagles goalkeeper trainer, Ike Shorunmu, is confident Odion Ighalo will prove his class when he makes his debut for Manchester United against Chelsea on Monday (today).

Ighalo teamed up with his new teammates at Manchester United’s Carrington training ground for his first session on Sunday ahead of the clash, after being quarantined for two weeks due to coronavirus fears.

The 30-year-old joined the Red Devils on a six months loan deal on transfer deadline day from Chinese Super League side, Shanghai Shenhua.

“It’s a very good move for Ighalo and this tells a lot about his qualities, which they saw in him,” Shorunmu told Sports Extra.

“He is a very strong player and that I believe will show his class for Manchester United. His move to Old Trafford is a plus for Nigerian football. Despite the fact that it’s a six-month loan, it’s a very good move for the player’s career and I believe it will open the way for more Nigerian-born players to play for the club in future,” Shorunmu told Sports Extra.
