Pupils of primary schools and civil servants in Ekiti State were stranded for hours on Thursday, following a protest by the workers and students of the Federal Polytechnic, Ado- Ekiti over the collapse of Ureje Bridge.
The bridge connects Ado-Ekiti to Abuja and Ikare-Akoko in Ondo State.
The protesters barricaded the collapsed bridge located along Ado-Ijan-Ikare road around 7:45am to express displeasure, leading to a standstill of vehicular movement for hours.
The development forced pupils and civil servants to return home, while workers of Afe Babalola University and Federal Polytechnic living in the area were trapped for hours.
The bridge collapsed last September due to persistent flooding, leading to the death of two persons. Belongings worth millions of naira were destroyed.
