CANDIDATES of seven political parties in Anambra State have stepped down and collapsed their structure for the candidate of All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, for Awka Constituency 1, Hon Nnamdi Okafor.  The political parties involved are NCP, PRP, NEPP, BWPP, NACP, DCP, and Kowa Party.
Speaking after their meeting in Awka yesterday, the chairmen of the seven political parties said they decided to endorse the APGA candidate after weighing all the options available to them in Saturday’s House of Assembly elections.
Their spokesman and the state chairman of BNPP, Mr. Nelson Ihenatuoha said Hon Okafor had been a worthy representative for the constituency, adding that he would be returning to the House as a ranking member, which would be a great advantage to the constituency.
He said: “The chairmen of the respective political parties have at the same time, agreed with the House of Assembly candidates of their respective parties in Awka 1 to step down for Okafor.
“We did this after noting his contributions in the House of Assembly where he has been exceptional in the performance of his legislative duties. It is on record that the said Okafor sponsored one of the most important bills passed by the outgoing legislature, the Anambra State Health Insurance Bill, which will benefit all Anambra people.
“It was also Okafor that sponsored the popular bill for a law prohibiting hawking and unauthorized advertisement of medicinal products in any part of the state.
“Above all, Okafor has empowered a large number of youths and women in the constituency and facilitated the infrastructural development of the capital city of Awka, which falls under his constituency.â€
According to Ihenatuoha, all the party chairmen had agreed to mobilize their supporters to vote for the APGA candidate so that the area would benefit fully from the administration of Governor Willie Obiano.
