State Governorship candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC), Obong Nsima Ekere has advised the party’s faithful to desist from violence and thuggery during the electioneering campaign in the state.

Ekere who spoke on Sunday during the solemn assembly to kick start the APC campaign in the state, also urged his teeming supporters to respect the rule of law, as according to him, his campaign would be issued based.

He said; ‘’we want a peaceful election. We don’t want violence as we criss-cross the entire 31 local government areas campaigning. There shall be no accident or loss for APC. One thing I want to say is that we shall run a government based on truth and transparency.

‘’We are not interested in the lies being peddled. The days of hypocrisy and lies are over. We are in a new dawn. My appeal to APC youth is that, you should make sure you don’t cause trouble and violence and don’t provoke anybody. You must respect the rule of law. We don’t want thugs in Akwa Ibom’’

Ekere who doubles as the Managing Director of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), condemned the recent siege on the State House of Assembly, blaming Governor Udom Emmanuel for invading the House with thugs to cause mayhem and called on the lawmakers to resolve the crisis in the overall interest of the state.

‘’I strongly condemn the siege in the Assembly. This is the first time a sitting governor use thugs to go and invade the House. The separation of power must be respected. You know how you started this problem, resolve it in the interest of Akwa Ibom people’’, he said.

Also speaking, Senator Godswill Akpabio gave the assurance that APC will win the state and commended President Muhammadu Buhari for performing creditably and appointing the indigenes of the state into strategic positions in his administration.

The former governor called on the party’s faithful to stand firm and not succumb to intimidation from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), reiterating that APC would campaign based on issues.

‘’For those who believe in blackmail, let them continue. This state has made a vow with God to support Buhari. This is the first President to give us over 30 appointments. We have over 400 parastatals and no president has ever given what Buhari has done. I believe in politics of development. Why are projects being commissioned in Rivers? This is not about PDP’’, he said.
